On Saying No and Protecting Your Time

On Saying No and Protecting Your Time

“Every time you say yes to something, you’re saying no to something else.”

I don’t remember where this quote came from, but it’s been powerful in shaping my thinking and the direction of my life.  We only have so much time, in each day, and in our lives, and how we spend that time is important.  There are no do-overs.  Before you can know what to say no to, and what to say yes to, you have to know what you value, and what’s important to you.  What you’re trying to accomplish with your time.

Reflect on how you spend your time, and how – or if – each activity is helping you get where you’re trying to go.  If it’s something that is counter to your goals or isn’t helping you achieve them, look for ways to reduce or eliminate that activity or commitment.  Be less agreeable.  Value your time more.

Know what you value.  Know what’s important to you, and say yes to spending your time in that space as much as you can.

Be well!

Chris
