On Consistency

On Consistency

Being consistent is important, especially when it comes to things we do to improve our health and with how we interact with people.

The benefits of sticking with calorie reduction and activity are well-documented, so I’d like to focus on interactions with people here.

Have you ever lived or worked with someone made you feel like you were walking on eggshells – like the storm might break at any moment?  So have I, and what I’ve realized is it isn’t the behavior from the egg shell causer that’s causes the eggshell feeling, its the not knowing when it’s coming that causes that feeling.

This is what makes torture so, well, torturous.  If you knew you were going to be waterboarded every 3 hours on the dot, you’d eventually come up with strategies to manage and get through it.  That’s what humans do.  When you don’t know when or what is coming, you can’t do that.  That’s what causes the eggshell feeling – the not knowing.

So, try hard to be consistent in how you interact with the people in your life.  Especially your loved ones!

Consistency leads others to feeling of safety and trust.  Lack of consistency gets us the opposite – Fear and mistrust.

So, be consistent.  Hopefully consistently kind.

Be well!
